[WFB] Dark Elves: 1500 List

I’ve been faffing about with more Dark Elf army lists, trying to refine the rather slapdash one I played last week (this has nothing to do with the prospect of playing TyBs and his More Better Dark Elves* at some point soon, not at all), and here’s what I’ve knocked up so far.

Basic plan here is for the Warriors to flank the Witch Elves and sort of steer them up one side of the board, with the Bolt Throwers, Crossbowmen and Shades running disruption, interference and shooty fun on the other. The Sorceress supports whichever side of the army needs her most – either helping out the shooting flank with more damage or softening up things that are going to upset the infantry. The Manticore attempts to flank charge stuff it can probably break, or tackle war machines and wizards, and can also help a Warrior unit out by breaking rank bonuses of things said Warrior unit’s fighting.

The Master’s job is something along the lines of ‘don’t die, snipe Fanatics’ (I’ll be playing against Goblins a lot), while the very very very dagger-happy Sorceress hides in the Spearmen unit and makes a nuisance of herself. The Shades and Dark Riders run interference, redirect stuff and set up corridors of fire for the Bolt Throwers and Crossbowmen – what I’ll be trying to do is force enemies to either go after the Bolt Thrower/Crossbow base-line and get shot at, or go after something that’ll run away from them and stall them for an Executioner or Witch Elf charge. The Executioners get the Assassin to help them with their poor Attacks, while the Witch Elves get Manbane and the Banner of Murder so they can at least do something about enemy saves. While both these units have their preferred targets, their gear allows them to at least try and deal with what’s actually in front of them.

Yes, I know. Needs more Cauldron. And probably Harpies.  I’m also tempted by a flying Sorceress and the Ring of Hotek on the Master rather than taking the Seal of Obligatory Magic Defence the whole time – and kind of wishing I owned a Hydra so’s I could fit three monsters into the first list and give it a silly name like ‘Monster Mash’. Heigh ho.  Best you can with what you’ve got.  It’s like a Nineties White Dwarf round ‘ere.

* – I know you’re reading this, and I trust you not to be a dirty list tailor who tailors lists.  I certainly haven’t.  I’ve just been trying to make my list better for fighting anything.

  1. >I like the 2nd one, first could definitely use a Hydra.I'm not sold on shield or any command beyond a lordling on the battery unit. You're gonna be killing them anyway, why bother paying more?You can drop some Witch Elves and Execs to pick up another unit of spearmen to be your real SCR unit. Or, swap the Master for that Cauldron and go nuts. MSU stubborn killiness is handy.

Fair point, though – if I build another unit they will be shieldless.What I might do is move the Sorceress into the Crossbow unit and be a bit more careful with my Daggering. Might that work?I'm not sure the Witches and Executioners can stand to lose too much and still hit the enemy seven wide. I could in theory strip the back ranks off each unit and hope the seven models left do something worthwhile, but I'm not sure…
